We are a group of Young Adults known as B2, which stands for Bridge Builders.
B2 is targeted for everyone who is a young adult- single or married, in college or not, with jobs or without, and with kids or without.
So you know that we are a group of young adults... The next question is where did this group come from?
Before B2, we started recognizing some problems. There were quite a few young adults who went to the same church, but who barely knew each other. Some of us tried to make ourselves "fit" into the adult classes or other groups in the church, but were never quite on the same wave length as some of the "older" adults. Our community and work places, for the most part, have more "older" adults than "young" adults. Couple that with the fact that after school a lot of us move away from close friends, it becomes twice as hard to build new friendships.
So, with the support of our church, we formed this group. For many months we brainstormed what it means to be a group of young adults, how we interact with the church and our community, and just what it was that God had in store for us.
First and foremost we wanted friends, friends our own age, who were going through the same stuff in life.
Second, we saw that there was a gap (Ok here is where B2 fits into the picture). There was a gap between high school graduation and the somewhat mysterious reintegration of the 30-something person into the church. If you don't go to church and you are reading this you are probably saying to yourself "I have no clue what they are talking about." That's ok! You just have to trust us, the problem exists.
Third, when we thought about it, we saw another gap - the huge gap that some people never cross. The personal gap between who they are on their own and becoming a person who is full of joy, excited about life, and knows that they are loved and have their own purpose in life... the gap between them and Christ. So we see it as our mission to bridge the gap, hence Bridge Builders (B2)!
Our Mission: To bridge the gap between the "twenty-something" generation and the remainder of the Church community so that we may all enjoy fellowship, discipleship, worship, outreach and prayer together in a non-threatening, Christ-centered environment.
We are in fact a ministry of Manassas St. Thomas United Methodist Church. We are just a bunch of ordinary Joes and Janes, who want to know others our own age, grow closer to Christ and have a chance to effect the world around us. It's kinda cool if you think about it.
